Full Dentures
Full or complete dentures come in two categories: “conventional” and “immediate.” Conventional full dentures are made after your teeth have been removed and your gum tissue has healed. The conventional denture is ready for placement about 8 to 12 weeks after teeth extraction. On the other hand, immediate dentures are made in advance and can be positioned as soon as the teeth are removed. Immediate dentures can be used during the gum tissue healing period. However as bones and gums shrink over time, immediate dentures often require more adjustments than conventional dentures.
Partial Dentures
A removable partial denture is made of replacement teeth and attached to a pink or gum-coloured plastic base. This base is then connected by metal framework to hold the denture in place. When you have one or more teeth remaining in your upper or lower jaw, partial dentures can be considered. Partial dentures not only fill the space left by the missing teeth, but they prevent the existing natural teeth from changing position. Other methods of filling in the areas of missing teeth include fixed or permanent bridges and precision partial dentures. Precision partial dentures have a more natural look as they are removable with internal attachments rather than clasps that hold on to adjacent crowns.
