Emergency Dental Services in Stoney Creek

At Portway Dental Centre we are happy to offer emergency dental services for patients in need. We understand that emergencies happen when you least expect them and that the pain caused by a dental emergency or accident can cause significant discomfort. We are here to help you when you are in need!

Below is a list of common dental emergencies and the steps to take:

*Please note that during all dental emergencies, do not chew, eat, or apply muscular pressure until the origin of pain is found. Phone to make an appointment right away.

Bitten Lip or Tongue

Thoroughly rinse your mouth out with water and gently clean the bitten area with a sterile cotton cloth. To combat any swelling, apply a cold compress to the surface of the area. If there is bleeding and it does not stop after half an hour, seek medical attention either at the hospital or call us for instructions.

Toothache

Gently floss the aching area and gargle warm salt water. An oral pain killer might help, but do not apply any pain killer directly to the aching tooth as it can damage to the surrounding tissue. Call us for an appointment right away.

Cracked or Broken Tooth

Gargle warm water in your mouth to clean the debris of the cracked or broken tooth. Swelling can be kept to a minimum with a cool pressure. Contact us for an appointment as soon as possible. If any bleeding occurs, use a piece of gauze pad to apply direct pressure for ten minutes or until the bleeding stops.

Broken Jaw

For a broken jaw, contact us immediately for referral to the oral surgeon on call at the nearby hospital.

Tooth Knocked Out of Place

If you have a displaced tooth, please visit our office as soon as possible. If you can, place the tooth back in its socket for the duration of your trip to the dentist. It’s important to keep the tooth wet, so if swelling prevents you from placing the tooth back in its socket, hold the tooth in your mouth or immerse it in milk. Never touch the root of the tooth!

Portway Dental Centre is open every day of the week. If you have a dental emergency, do not hesitate to contact our office immediately. We will do our best to accommodate you into our schedule.
